Should I go for a full face or open face helmet when riding a scooter?

I know its obvious that full face offers more protection and safety, but iv'e heard they are sometimes really heavy on your neck and costraphobic.

I'm just wondering if an open face helmet would be better for me as i'm going to be commuting everyday on the scooter?

  1. i would prefer a full for safety but like you said.  i just can't wear and breathe.  so use the open with goggles for your eyes if you can't use full face.

  2. try one on and see what you like

  3. Everyone has there own preferences.  I don't find the open face hard to breath in and in cold weather it is easy to wrap up to stay warm

  4. A full-face helmet has a lot more protection in a crash, but a half or 3/4 helmet is certainly better than no helmet. As another poster said, you should definitely try both types on and see what suits you better. As for weight, there's not a huge difference between a 3/4 helmet and a full face helmet, the weight depends more on the type of materials than the shape.

If you commute with your scoot, and you're planning on leaving the helmet in the underseat storage, you might also want to check and make sure it fits before you buy it. I thought my full face helmet would fit, but the storage comes up about 1" short for it and I have to carry it into work. It's not a primary consideration, just something to think about.

  5. full face = you can always flip the shield up and if you ride in the rain alot full-face is the only way to go

  6. well a full face would be best but u would wear an open face and goggles and you should be fine
