Question:

Should I go see my shoulder doctor?

I had shoulder surgery in January and I've been seeing my doctor all summer long with lots of pain. My last appointment that I had with him he did an injection and it seemed to help but in the last couple days I've been getting a little more pain in my shoulder. My last appointment was the 15th of August. I've also been doing physical therapy all summer long too, and that is not helping me out. I had surgery because I had a bone that was too long in my shoulder. I'm a 16 year old female and I also play softball but didn't play it this summer. Please help me.

  1. Your best bet would be to see you surgeon. Tell him what is going on and what makes the pain worse. I tell my athletes to sit out if the pain is a 7/10 or worse.

I am going to guess that the injection that you had was a cortisone injection. Cortisone is a steroid that helps reduce inflammation (swelling). The amount of injection that you will have will depend on the doctor and where the injections are going. Some doctors will only give you 1 injection, some will give you 1 every 2 weeks.
