So i have been thinking about going pump in paintball after be gogged every time i got out by guys with a pump markers (dead serious). So should i dive straight into stock class or get an open class gun? If I decide to go stock class i will probably get a sheridan pgp off ebay. If not i will get a sl-68 or maverick/traccer.

Thanks for looking!

  1. whoa whoa dude do not buy a maverick/traccer they are way to cheap of guns i know (I owned both) they sucked. If your gonna get a pump go for a phantom high quality low price (around $200) not as cheap as a pgp or maverick but it can go open class and stock class really fast by just switching the bodies. lemme tell you what i did when i went to pump. I bought a phantom open class with constant air (just like any other gun like a stock style) with a right slanted hopper feed now this gun was nice to use till i got used to pump. Cuz it helped ease my way into stock class by wearing out my arm and pretty much forcing me to use less paint. then after about a month and a half of this i bought the vertical stock class body and now this is pretty much how i play today. Pump takes alot of getting used to but it will make you a better more honest paintballer.

the pgp is a good gun for pretty much just playing around with cuz they really dont have any range (small barrel) or accuracy still fun to play duels with though.

go to your local field ask someone to let you use there stock-class gun get used to it first then make your decision.

  2. When I started playing paintball, pump was the only option, because semis weren't around yet, and I've played through the progression to modern paintguns.

There is a myth that pumps are more accurate.  It's not true.  Pumps force you to pay more attention to taking only a good shot, because you only have one shot before you have to pump which throws off your aim and you have to take time to line up your shot again.

Some people like to use pumps as a training tool to help them learn to shoot more accurately because of this, but you can save a whole lot of money by just using your brain and disciplining yourself to take good aimed shots, and if they miss, you have a quick follow-up shot with the semi that a pump doesn't offer.
