Should I go to Dominican Republic?

I want to go to Dominican Republic? Do you have any hotels to recommend or any info I should know before hand?

we just came back and werent overly impressed. I wish we would have went to Cancun for our honeymoon instead. We stayed at the Dreams resort which was not bad but the food was not so good. Punta Cana is very selcuded which we thought we would like at first but after 2 days we wanted the Cancun life.

I say if you go bring lots of sunscreen, lots of money for tips (because they expect it and get upset if no tip for ALL services) and think about if you want to be totally selcuded when you go there.

As long as you stay away from the all-inclusives you will be fine.  I heard they lie to tourists and tell them it is dangerous outside, just to keep them from going out and seeing that it is more fun outside.

it can be a dangerous place, people are always getting kidnapped, my company had a call center there for a bit and it had to have guys with ak's outside guarding it

DR is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Caribbean for good reason -- the beaches and the resorts.

Go to an all-inclusive resort so you never have to leave it. The resorts there are beautiful. We stayed at the Occidental Grand Flamenco and enjoyed it a lot because of the beautiful beach and many things to do including kayaks, sailboats, etc. We also went resort scuba diving there, which is easy to do if you have never done scuba before.

We did go shopping outside of the resort one time. We never felt threatened, although the shopkeepers were aggressive at selling. Just the same, we stayed together as a group.

The Melia Caribe Tropical is a beautiful hotel.  This is a beautiful country with very friendly people.  The Dreams Hotel is also very nice.  Just remember LOTS of sunscreen.
