  1. You should definitely go there. Both islands have many tourist attractions, and I think that New Zealand is a country that needs to be visited more than once, probably at different times of the year although summer is more pleasant in the whole country (the only place you should visit in the winter is the mountainous area of North Island if you want snow). You can't see everything that's worth seeing in New Zealand in just one vacation, especially if you have limited funds.

  2. Check to price of transportation there and be aware that New Zealand is more than Auckland.

If you are currently travelling in Australia it might make more sense to stay there and spend more time experiencing that country.

  3. It's the best trip I've ever made. South Island for sure more interesting. Swim with the dolphins or whales, Bungee jump from a cable car, climb the glaciers, shave some sheep or pick grapes and apples to make room and board.

  4. Go to south Island. Queenstown. Loads of backpackers, easy and cheap to travel on from there (buses etc)

  5. Bear in mind that Queenstown is the tourist capital of NZ, and is quite expensive.  It all depends on what you are looking for, really.  The West Coast of the S. Island is rugged, beautiful, and nearly deserted.  The Bay of Islands is warmer, sunnier, and also amazing.  Rotorua is impressive, and I really like Taupo.  So many things to do there, you just need to decide if you want to be in the more urban north, or the more remote south.  They nearly seem like different countries, they are so different.

  6. You could visit Christchurch in South island. It is a beautiful garden city.
