Should I go to school to learn to dive commercially?

I am a welder by trade and wish to widen my job choices but I have been told at 38 im to old?

Not sure if you are too old. I have helped teach recreational divers that are in their 60s, and they go to 100+ feet all the time. As far as going to school. Yes you should go to a reputable commercial diving school. You won't get hired without the proper training. It's a difficult job in the best of conditions and much of the time you won't be in the best conditions. Here's a link for a few diving schools that may be able to help you out.
