Everytime im in launguage arts I erase the answer I put for a question and write again over and over and over.

My dad said I should go to special education but its my choice.

I know that when I go to special education people will pick on me....I think im not going to worry about them.

And will I still be able to join the girls basketball team?

Im not stupid!!!!!!!!!!

Its just that I havent been in school for over a year and I moved to another city....the work is different.

  1. You need an education. If your Dad suggested special education, then ask him to call the school and request the evaluation be done so you can get services. He needs to contact the principal. If you have these problems and continue without help you are limiting yourself in what you can accomplish with your life.  Go for it so you can build your skills and have a better paying job.

  2. NO YOU ARE NOT STUPID! Don't let people tell you that.  It sounds to me like you have a learning disability, probably in math.  there is nothing wrong with this and MANY people do have a learning disability. I would talk to your parents, your guidance councelor and maybe a trusted teacher and see if you can test tested for this. That is the only way you can get into special education anyway. If is the case that you do have a learning disability, a whole new world opens for you. YOu will be provided supports in school and out of school.  Good luck.

  3. Have you been given the choice by the school? Usually to be in special ed you need to have a low IQ, or some other test that shows you can't function in a normal class setting. The school determines this, not you or your parents. I think that you should look into getting an IEP(Individualized Education Plan). That way you, your parents, and the school will be involved in getting the best education you can. You also should consider the fact that colleges will look at your class placement. I wouldn't go to special ed if I had the choice. You have a learning disability you aren't mentally retarded. My brother was placed in special ed and it was hard. It was a real blow on his self esteem. It also limited his job choices later in life. Talk to your school's counselor and see what your options are.

  4. I think it's a learning disability, nothing else.

  5. You sound a bit like my son. He had similar problems in school, but he just couldn't hang on to the knowledge. This made him very anxious and as a result he started doing some "OCD" kind of stuff as a way to deal with his anxieties. We had him see a psychaitrist who diagnosed him with ADHD. He started taking medicine for his ADHD and we got him tutors as well. Now he's doing fine, and got pretty good SAT scores. Don't worry yourself sick about this. Just talk to a counsellor, ask for an evaluation and get some help. And it shouldn't stop you from joining the girls basketball team (as long as you can play!).  My son used to think he was stupid. Now he knows he's smart, he just happens to have ADHD. Good luck.

  6. if you are aware of it i dont think you need it maybe just get your friends to help you with your problems, talk about it with a special teacher even, like some one to help you overcome this...

or get private help and noone needs to know but ou and your family

  7. Being in special education is not horrible.  I work in a school myself.  Some kids in middle school & high school just have one class in special education and spend  the rest of the day in regular classes.

Who is going to know this anyways. Your IEP is planned so its to your needs.

The other thing is no one is going to know that you are in special ed unless you tell them.   Even teachers have to keep a confidential thing about their students.

  8. Have you been diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder? This would likely make you eligible for Special Education.  If you don't have this diagnosis, then you should see your doctor.  There may be another explanation with a medical solution.

There are many learning disabilities for which Special Education would help, but it depends mostly on the program offered within your school district.  Talk with your guidance counselor.  This is why they are there.  They can guide you through the special education qualification process.  They can also help you with getting tutors to help catch up.  You have just one chance go through school, so get the most from it that you can.  Don't decide based upon whether you may get picked on, it's your education, take charge and make the choice that gives you the best opportunities.

  9. They have IEP's and 504 plans as well. You should get tested your parents should insist on this. The schools have to provide equal education for all students - because not all students are equal in learning they have what is called spec. ed. or spec. plans for individuals that learn different ways. We all know that 10 plus 10 is always 20, but how many ways can 20 be divided?  Just ask 20 people and you will get 20 different anwsers. Because we all learned it a different, special way. Best of luck my friend ,B.
