I am thinking of booking a holiday to the Dominican Republic (in Samana) but I am worried the weather will be bad and ruin it. Has anyone been this time of year who could help me??

  1. The best way to visit the Dominican Republic is to go on a tour.  Trust me!

Especially if you're a college student , like me...it works out to be WAAYYY cheaper.  Plus, you get to hang out with a bunch of college students while you travel.

Plus, if you enter manager code: gavrie6237 when you book,

they'll give you a $50.00 discount on top of the already cheap price.

It's safer, smarter, chaeaper, and more fun to do it this way.

  2. I have been there before in August and it was hot.  Being at the beach you really do not mind it.  If I could go this August, I would!  Have fun!

  3. Yes, I went there during the summer. We had a few short periods of intense rain, and that was it.

DR is part of the hurricane zone, and August is in the middle of the hurricane season. That said, I find it's helpful to look at the average weather to get a feeling for the odds.

The guide below shows that it rains an average of 10 days during August. The average rainfall is starting to go up. But the odds are still in your favor.

If you're set on going to the Caribbean in August, you might also consider Aruba, Curacao and Bonaire. Aruba gets about 25mm of rainfall in August compared to 100 in Dominican.

  4. I was in Punta Cana (Playa Bavaro) last year during the first week of August.  We had awesome weather..hot and humid, but perfect Beach weather.  We didn't get any rain, but I think we lucked out.   I love the DR, wonderful beaches, great resorts.  For me, beats Mexico hands down!!

  5. Hi,

Don't worry about the weather in August in the Dominican Republic, it is hot,hot ( 80+F). Samana is very nice for the beach lovers. You will enjoy it and don't forget to discover this beautiful country!!.

    Happy to help you

  6. The Caribbean in general is rough that time of year, super hot and humid. Not to mention there are thunderstorms almost everyday. However unless you get really unlucky and there is a hurricane you should be fine. While it rains almost everyday usually its in the late afternoon and only for an hour or so. Plus chances are you'll be at a really nice resort with lots of stuff to do regradless of the weather. the DR has great hotels but the once you step off the property things get a little dicey. I personally like Mexico better, Riviera Maya or Tulum. Good Luck!

  7. Don't worry too much about the rain...if there is any rain, it will be a tropical shower...the rains come usually at night and mainly when you're asleep. I have not been to the DR in August, but I have been to Cuba at that time. The weather was amazing! It's perfect beach weather. I have friends that went to Samana and really liked it there.

The weather won't be much of an issue...as I said, if there is rain, it'll be a shower and will be a welcoming cool. It won't interfere with your activities/vacation.

    Have a great time.
