Question:

Should I go to the doctor before I go to America for a year?

Over the last few months I have had some health concerns. I had heart palpitations after drinking and when very tired. I also often feel my heart beating through my chest and have random soft pains in my abdomen and chest. Coupled with this my vision feels ... weird. I could be a hypochondriac. Regardless I have a full scholarship at an American college starting next week and am wondering should I just risk my health and go without getting a checkup or visit the doctor. If I do he probably won't be too keen to help ... and what tests can he do that will have results in less than a week?

  1. No, but you may need a shrink afterwords.

  2. Definitely, you should seek medical care from whatever country you're coming from.  Medical care without insurance is expensive over here.

From the way you described your symptoms- these  are signs of a anxiety or panic attacks. The probable cause is expected trip to a foreign Country. .   If  drinking cause heart palpitations, then stop drinking. It's probably nothing more than a case of the nerves.  After all, you said you are a hypochondriac. Cardiac problems or CAD (coronary artery disease ) is usually uncommon in teenagers.

However, if you want to be safe and assured, you should go to the doctor for an EKG.

  3. Well I would see a doctor and tell him your symptoms and also tell him you are going abroad for a year. I would also get yourself some decent travel insurance as medical treatment ain't free in america.

  4. As your symptomatic, I think it would be a good idea to see a Dr before you travel. Just for piece of mind if nothing else, the palpitations could be stressed induced. But I would recommend seeing your GP. Good luck with your travels in one of the greatest countries in the world (let's see how many thumbs down I get for saying that!!)

  5. well your from a different country...you might need a shot or something.

    you should see a doctor.
