I joined my school football team and i now have practice from 2;30pm to 8;00pm. i haven't been to the gym in a week since i started football because ive been dying after practice. But I was told by a teammate that I should keep going so that way I stay strong or something like that. Should I go to the gym before practice?I'm just worried that I wont have enough energy for practice.

  1. No. You already expelled enough energy in football practice, there's no need to use any more by working out.

  2. i don't know much about football, but i do know they work you hard, at least at my school. if you have practice for that long, i don't think you should go to the gym also. it would be way too tiring for you and probably too much for you to handle.

  3. Make sure that you're not pushing yourself too hard, otherwise you could increase the chance of injury and won't get to play football at all. Maybe go in the morning for an hour, don't burn yourself /too/ hard and have a break if you can. Or how about visiting the gym on a day that you don't have football?

Just make sure you're giving your body time to rest!

Also- do you do a warm down at the end of your practice? A few stretches after you've pushed yourself and some steady breathing exercises should save your body from 'dying' too much and help it recover!

  4. Dude don't do it, trust me your gonna come out very tired, if you do so. Just eat well and get a good night sleep, man.

  5. Dont go to the gym right before your practice the day before is okay. You have to worry about muscle strains and muscle cramps. If you work out right before a game or hours of practice you muscles can lock up and it could be alot of pain and if continue lots of damages to your muscles. Dont mess your football career up too early with injuries!

  6. You should talk to your coach for his opinion since he knows how the practice will be routined. I don't think you should work out before practice. That is a lot of pressure/stress you're putting on your body in that amount of time. You can work out for maybe a hour on the weekends just too keep your regiment going but before practice is too much. By the time you get there, you're going to be drained and look weak.

  7. go to the gym after practice, that way you aren't drained for football. You won't be able to lift that much, but it will maintain your stregnth. If you do a lot of running don't do your legs at the gym. That opens up the door for injury. Do a little upper body and go home and eat a little bit of simple carbs (sugars) and a lot of protien.

  8. Yes, but not the day before or the day of practice, because your bones won't be ready for the big action.

  9. you need to get used to the practices before you go back to the gym.....football practices are physically demanding and shouldnt be taken lightly...especially in the late summer months....and after you get used to the practices,, go to the gym, maybe just do weight and strength training, as practices include a good amount of cardio...
