I'm 17 years of age and I'm considering joining the Marine Corps after I graduate. I'm going into my junior year of high school this fall. Is it time for me to start talking to the recruiter? What are some important things I should ask him?

  1. No and get this idea of joining the Marines out of your head.Do you want to be turned into hamburger in Iraq or Afghanistan?Go to college.Learn something useful.Live a long and prosperous life.Don't make the mistake of joining the Marines.

  2. Yes you should go talk to a recruiter why not? Go find out what jobs we have. Really think is this the  way you wanna go, and plus so what if you can't join yet you still can find out important information. Good luck

  3. I'm currently serving in the army. Don't join the military is all i really have to say. Don't talk to a recruiter. If you have NO other options then alright maybe, just make sure EVERYTHING you want is in your contract, the job, the money, the length of your training for your MOS, read it over carefully. My contract was fine, my recruiter didn't lie or anything, but the military esp. the army robs your life away from you. You don't get to see your family, it breaks up homes, it can even kill you or worse you may end up difigured or missing arms and legs. Don't join to be patriotic, you'll only be apart of a rich man's game, and they'll work you like a slave. You have virtually no rights in the military and I promise you if you join you'll end up feeling like a prisoner. If you join you'll remember this.

  4. You can enlist at your age, But no matter what you will need to wait another 2 years to get your diploma. Although its never to early to get in shape and start making your life style healthier physically. Tell the recruiters your interested in the Marines, and do PT ( physical training ) with them. All the people who are about to be sent to boot camp work out together once a week, the recruiters teach us stuff and its a fun way to break a sweat.

  5. You can join when your 17 with parental consent.  All the time you spend in DEP (your recuriter will explain that)  Will count towards your inactive time after your 4 year contract if decide not to countinue.  Right now your recuriter will help you get in shape and preapare for boot camp.  I just graduated june 27 from boot camp.

  6. I just joined the Marines, and it's not all i thought it would be, i wish i had gone to school, the pay is not that great....and i am seperated from my family a lot...

  7. LAVA DOGGS correct, the 17 y.o. you might not be the 18y.o. you, there is no need to put the a*s before the face, focus on school and maybe even think about college officers make alot better money then enlisted men, but DO NOT talk to a recruiter until you are 100% sure you want to join, there is nothing they can tell you that you can not find out on your own, recruiters are simply middle men between you and meps, sleep on this for a couple years, you've still got your junior and senior year and when your in high school that can be a lifetime. recruiters can be very dishonest and they prey on cherry patriotic azzkickers like you.

  8. Yes, It is a great time to talk to a recruiter. It gives you more time to get ready. It also gives you time to find out which jobs/areas would be best.

The earlier you start working with a recruiter the better.

  9. Why would you go see a recruiter?? Your only about to start your junior year..

Your recruiter should only be used to fill out your paperwork..Right now you should know what jobs interest you, you should have an idea of how smart you are so therefore you can have an idea as to what your asvab score will be, you should know what you want from the military, you should know what other mos's interest you..

You dont have to speak to a recruiter because they will say whatever you wish to hear..If you dont go to him with demands then he will give you what he needs to fill..

Your in charge and not them..You dont need to ask him anything..Do your research and you will have all the answers you need..A recruiter should only be used to take you to meps and to do paperwork.
