Question:

Should I go to work for a temp agency?

I lost my sales job just over three weeks ago. I am expecting to be drawing unemployment in a few more days. I interviewed for a permanent position with Office Team and they said they are moving on with other candidates; however, they want to bring me on as a temp at a new sales office being started. I think they want to bring me on in a temp to perm. position role in an inside sales position. I would be selling foreclosure products to people whose homes are about to go into foreclosure.. I have some concerns about the temp agency and pay. They say I am going to get paid hourly and paid hourly with commission. They havent told me how much yet, but I was making $52,000 in my last job. I have a feeling I am not going to make much going through a temp agency, and I kinda feel I should keep looking for a full time job since I will probably get approved for unemployment next week. If I am only making $10 an hour with some commission I am not going to be able to pay bills and I could make as much staying unemployed longer. I have only been unemployed three weeks so far. What do you think I should do? Hold out for full-time employment? Or should I go to work for the temp agency?

  1. Ask the temp agency for the exact terms of the contract of employment including hourly rate of pay, how much commission and the duration of the contract.  If it is not appealling to you then look for full time work however, I would rather have a temp job and keep looking for full time work in the meantime rather than go on unemployment and risk not getting a job before it runs out.
