I live in Minnesota and we have a huge blizzard. Yesterday I called in because I work till 12:30Am every night and the night before i spun out and almost went in a ditch. On the ride home I saw 4 other cars in the ditch on the highway and I couldnt see the road. I had to go 25 mph on the hwy and the only reason i made it was because there were cars in front of me to lead the way. Last night was supposed to be way worse so I called in. Well today is really bad. Everyones cars are burried and have been outside digging for hours. My husband got our van stuck 6 times and needed 4 other people to get him out. I dont want to get in trouble at work but Im allowed so many "occurences" and i havent reached that yet. Actually up until 2 weeks ago I had perfect attendance but I went home a couple hours early. If I call in I will be a little short on the rent but my husbands check will cover it. My main concern is getting into hot water at work. Ive really needed time off anyways.

  1. Please purchase and learn to drive a four wheel drive vehicle.  In the interim please try and carpool with someone from work that has a four wheel drive.  If your company is open you should try and report to work.  The work ethic in America has completely disintegrated.  As the economy worsens, employees will have to try harder.

  2. stay at home so that you don't face any more things. your boss will understand. don't worry.

  3. If I were your husband I would insist that you stay home, or drive you myself. Safety first! Job is not worth wreck. Employer should understand.

    Regards,

    Dan

  4. I also bealive they would understand unless it's somewhere where they are depending on you as the main person if you know what I mean. I worked at a hotel and I was the only one that could translate what needed to be done and the only one of shift in the morning so when I called in because I couldn't cross over one of the briges because it was ice I got fired. But my manager wasn't a manager much longer after that she just had everything really un organized. Anyways good luck to you and I'm sure they will understand.

  5. Stay home. Safety first. If your employer doesn't understand that, maybe you need tpo look for a new employer.

  6. Stay home it is safer and your employer will understand.........

  7. If you are afraid of the road then you should definitely call in because you will be a hazard and no job is worth your life. There have been many accidents in bad weather due to drivers being afraid and not making the right choices. The temperatures drop at night which could create "black ice" which you won't see at night. Call off, if you do get in trouble, just remind yourself that you are alive and well and able to get grief from the job whereas if you would have wrecked...we won't think about that. Be safe at all costs!
