Question:

Should I go with treated wood or untreated wood?

I'm doing some work on my sunroom, and I need to buy some wood to support the walls. The wood shouldn't be exposed to large amounts of water, but the room does get pretty humid. I was wondering if it would be better to use treated wood because of the high humidity, or if it doesn't matter as long as it's not exposed to large amounts of water. Thanks!

  1. Treated lasts longer. I would go with that. Happy constructing!

  2. Treated wood would be a better option. It is much stronger, nothing can stop it from being weak.

  3. i tend to disagree    with  the first answer          , if you use  untreated, lumber you can, stain, and seal the lumber  to protect it from the humid conditions, however

i would suggest you install a vent    to help keep it cooler , with less heat you lumber will last longer,

even  todays teated lumber  isnt the best ,

i only use treated lumber , under  the floor  ,or outside

  4. if the wood will be covered w/ sheetrock... then No. Id use untreated wood and then use paperless sheetrock. it is intended for mousture or green rock.

  5. Treated will last longer as a bottom plate....laying right on the ground. but you dont need to use it for your application (for the walls) keep in mind it is more expensive and more dangerous to work with. the saw dust is toxic to breathe and get on your skin.  most contain copper-arsinate  a compound of copper and arsnic a deadly poison.  seal the exposed wood studs with clear stain if its reallllllly humid if you must. They will last just as long as treated....in that situation!
