Question:

Should I have a go at installing the shower myself?

I have very few DIY skills. Our current shower leaks

when we use it, and we bought a new shower from Wickes

at £149.

The idea was we get it professionally installed but the cost is around £300.

We have a mixer shower - the compenents work so don't need replacing

it is the enclosure, tray and waste that need changing.

Is this really a hard job?

I think it is leaking because of age, but I don't wish to mess it up.

Do I have a go then?

  1. It's not to difficult a job but if you don't get it right first time your going to have a lot of headaches later and futher expence, if you go ahead, read up on whats involved take your time and double check everything, goodluck.

  2. Sounds like you & I are one in the same.  We've got the desire but perhaps not the skills.

I'd give it a go if you're feeling confident.  Take your time and follow the instructions to the letter.  Maybe some internet research as well.

Have a plummer on retainer if things go south.

    Good luck.

  3. Absolutely not .Remember water and electrics.Get someone who knows what they're doing.

  4. £300? For an enclosure? He's having a laugh!

Give it a go mate. Take your time and read everything carefully and there's no reason why you can't do this yourself. Got the materials? Mastic for the edges, perhaps huh?  Here's a terrif web site that should help.

  5. Absolutely! Just follow the directions that came with the new one.  Should be fairly easy.  Make sure you use some plumbers tape.(for wrapping pipe end, seals it )

  6. Pay up,    Showers are always difficult even for a professional,  my showers never leaked because I took great care in fitting them, You don't have the expertise.

The buck stops with the installer, if it leaks, he has to sort it out.
