Question:

Should I have exempted my HS final exams, or taken them?

Basically, my dad is holding the fact that I exempted 'easy' exams- Band, Theater, Physics...classes where I excel in and could probably make an 'A' on the exam if I spent a night studying for each. Exams are worth 20% of the semester grade, so obviously they shouldn't be taken lightly. He says that I should be taking every chance I get to raise my grades, but nobody I know is taking an exam if they exempt it.

With each exam worth so much of my final grade, I don't understand why taking the risk would be benificial. Besides, we don't have to go to school for the classes we exempt, giving me time to sleep in for the exams I do have to take. Would it have been smarter to take my exams, even if I already have a high A/B in those classes?

  1. I don't see it really as a matter of that specific grade but it WILL affect your overall GPA score which is extremely important once you start making choices for colleges and such

  2. If you had a high B, I could see why you would want to take it. If you already have an A... you don't benefit much.

However, you will benefit from the fact of getting used to taking regular exams without exempting from it (like you will be doing in college).
