Should I have my rabbit put down?

my rabbit has black nits all down its spine, and a raised area with slight blood on the top of it's back. Should i take it in to a vet to be checked out, or should I just have it put down. I don't want to sound heartless, but really can't afford a trip to the vet if there is nothing we can do, however, if it can be helped, i want to do that. The rabbit is a carmel dutch, and is about 5 years old. Please Help!

  1. Take it to a vet to be looked at.Poor thing.I know that vet bills are expensive but if you want to save it's life take it to the vet ASAP.

  2. you still have to pay to get it put down humanely

  3. rabbits can live up to 15 years, or at least my breed can.

  4. Take it to the vet.  It sounds like an external parasite issue (mites, fleas, etc) that could very easily be treated with the proper medications.  The earlier these things are caught and treated, the easier and less expensive they are to cure.  I wish everyone who comes on here with their pets very ill would realize that.  Caught and treated early, it's much cheaper than waiting until it's severe.

  5. take it to the vet if u really care about it.

thats the best thing to do.

  6. I really believe you should only own animals if you can afford to take proper care of them.

It is inhumane to allow your rabbit to suffer, so you do need to make a decision to take him/her to the veterinarian or you need to put her down yourself.

There are AVMA approved, humane methods of euthanasia that can be done at home. They are painless for the rabbit, but not pleasant for the owner.

The best decision would be to take your rabbit to the veternarian and have him make the call as to whether or not the rabbit should be treated or put down.

  7. Don't kill your rabbit because she has a health issue. Let her run around in your backyard and enjoy the remainder of her life! Pay for the vet to get her cured! Do not get an animal again if you are too cheap to take it to the vet! It's not fair to the animal!i

  8. Take it to the vet!!! Even if there is nothing you can do, the rabbit has blood on it, which means it is bleeding. Which means it is probably in pain. You're right, that does sound heartless. Why get a pet if you can't afford vet trips?

  9. go to a vet dont put it down i am sure it can go back to health please do not put it down
