Ok... I used to rent cars almost every weekend... Used to leave the key in the car and leave one door unlocked, because it was a loose key and i didnt want to lose it... I guess someone knew what I was doing cuz they decided to take the car on a joyride, and completely wrecked it... insurance didnt pay for it, neither did my credit card... Can I fight this case?

  1. You were the one who choose to be irresponsible with someone else's property instead of taking 5 seconds to get a ring and stick it on your keyring, and you should have to pay for the damages.

  2. well i am sory to say it was your fault you left the door open in the first place! you are supposed to keep your key in your purse or whatev and then you LOCK all the doors so no one can go on a joyride!

  3. Insurance will not cover a loss for negligence.

Example:  Leaving the door unlocked and leaving a key in the car is negligent on YOUR part because you are basically telling people "LOOK THERE'S A RENTAL CAR WITH THE DOOR UNLOCKED AND THE KEY IS IN THERE TOO".

Now- if you had the door LOCKED and there was no key in the car... that would be a different case!  THEN insurance would pay under comprehensive because of theft with no negligent actions on your part.

Sorry but next time lock your car and be sure to keep the key in your pocket!

  4. NO, i hope you learned a lesson

  5. nope you were at complete fault for leaving the key in the car
