I'm kinda at a cross roads here. I don't know if it's worth it to go back to school for a political science degree or to continue working.

Is it worth it to spend 4 years working on something I may never use in the future and which will set me back financially?

What you guys think?

  1. It is worth it!  The returns over a lifetime are tremendous (1 million over your lifetime for a Bachelor's degree).  It is never too late.  I earned back to back degrees, my Bachelors and my Master's in Information Technology when I was 36.  Aside from that, I accomplished this while working full time.  I will be starting my dual Master's MBA/Ed or Ph.D in Technology Management in

January 2009 when I am 39.  The rewards were not immediate, although personally, I like the journey and no matter the road, I feel confident about the person I am on becoming.

  2. I don't think it is ever too late to go back to school, but if you are questioning whether or not you'll use the degree, you really have to weigh your options. I don't really think you have to worry about your age being the issue, instead it's whether or not the degree is worth it financially...but if it is something you know you can balance with a job as well, I say go for it...an added degree can always help in the workplace, more opportunities. But if you enjoy your job now, then stick to what you know.

  3. I'm not sure what you can do with just a BA in Political Science. At my university you can get the BA and then do one year of grad school that certifies you as a teacher and you are allowed to teach at the college level teaching political science.I would look into it if I were you.

  4. Yes,but then if you supplement it with law school you could go even further in politics.Lots of luck

  5. If you don't think you will use it professionally, then you don't necessarily need the DEGREE. You could take a class at a local university without actually pursuing the degree. Then, you stay involved in your passion and learn new skills.
