  1. Yes, you will get better gas mileage on fully inflated tires.

  2. No, inflate to what the trailer's tag says.

same with a car, the tag in the door jamb should have info on what to set it at

  3. Only if you are caring a load but never inflate to the max if just pulling any empty trailer, the same is for a car or truck, you dont inflate to the max unless you are caring a large load..

  4. Inflate the tires to just what the trailer manufacturer says to inflate them to.

You will probably get better mileage with tires inflated to the max noted on the sidewall, but your trailer / combination will be safer at the recommended pressure.

Over inflated tires are more likely to cause a trailer to jack knife of not track straight.

A horse trailer - especially with a horse in it - is a heavy load. Do not compromise your horse(s) safety by trying to save some gas.

Jackknifing means the accidental folding of an articulated vehicle (i.e. one towing a trailer) such that it resembles the acute angle of a folding pocket knife. If a vehicle towing a trailer skids, the trailer can push it from behind until it spins round and faces backwards.

I have seen a horse trailer jack knife, and both horses had to be put down.

    Good luck.

  5. Yes. You get the maximum load rating of the tire when it is inflated to the maximum tire pressure.

All my trailer tires (horse trailer, flatbeds) are all max. So are my trucks.

Even an empty horse trailer is usually a lot of weight. ALWAYS fill them to the max. It has nothing to do with fuel economy. You should never run a trailer tire like that at "the recommended 35psi" c**p. This isn't your Toyota Camry.

Jack-knifing is not caused by having your trailer tires inflated to maximum pressure. The only tire pressure recommendation I have ever seen on a trailer sticker IS THE MAXIMUM RATED PRESSURE OF THE TIRE ON THE TRAILER WHEN THE TRAILER WAS BUILT AND SOLD!!!

I don't know what size trailer you have, or the load rating of your tires. Every horse trailer I've owned had 10-ply tires, and my maximum tire pressure is 80psi. Guess what, all my tires are at 80psi.
