Question:

Should I install "stolen" software?

The reason I put "stolen" in quotes is I got a piece of software from my sister's husband for my birthday. I called to thank my sister today and she mentioned it wasn't a problem but I better not return it since it was very discounted as her husband works for Best Buy. When I asked her what she meant by that, she said it was the 5-finger discount. I know it was a gift, but I don't want to register it knowing it was stolen and then getting myself in hot water if it is traced back to me. What do I do now?

  1. No-one could possibly know it is "stolen" except you

    Simple as that :)

  2. As far as manufacturer of the software is concerned, you purchased it legally and they will never know otherwise.

That's the facts. Now MORALLY should you use it? If your momma raised you right, you'd know the answer.

  3. they can't trace that stuff

  4. If this software was by chance Photoshop, then by all means..go right ahead.

Adobe screws the consumer over so much by making it cost so much!

  5. stop the paranoia

you can install it and nothing will happen

  6. nothing is going to happen.. as long as the software was original or came with a CD key or is not a cracked version.. the software pretty much thinks its a legal copy and you have nothing to worry about

  7. You can safely install this software without it being traced back to you. I know plenty of people who download software illegally, it is always safe as long as you don't register the software after installation. Even if you register it, it's still pretty safe.

Every piece of software you'll ever need can be downloaded via torrent, don't feel bad about it, a lot of people get their software for free.....it's like downloading music on limewire. The companys don't feel the "pain", they charge astronomical fees and make most of their money on deals with companies anyway.
