Should I invest in some snowboard gear?

How many times should a person go snowboarding a season for it to be actually worth buying snowboard gear?

I went snowboarding for the first time this year and I was in love.

After your first time snowboarding, what was the next thing you did to continue in the sport?

  1. As soon as you know you love it, and are going to be going up to the mountain, is when I would suggest getting your own gear.

If you are in love, and can afford it, you should get a setup.  If you plan on going up a decent amount you should get a decent setup that you can grow into.

I bought my gear right away.  But like you, I fell in love.

  2. I got all my stuff even before I set foot on the slopes.  It depends on how many times you will go in a season, and if you are still growing.  I would think if you go 5 times a year and keep your equipment for 2 years, then I;d buy my own.  If you only go a few times a year, then I probably would rent.  If you haven;t bought all your clothing, then I definitely would do that, whether you rent or buy the board and boots.  The biggest advantage of buying your gear is that you can get used to riding it, it's exactly what you want and you can tweak it just right.

Like you I fell in love with snowboarding.  I ended up getting a snowskate, and will be getting a better one this season. I also got two new boards.
