I remember taking karate when I was 8, I got up to green belt and had to quit because my parents separated.

Should I join karate again? Don't really have many physical hobbies besides walking to the party store.

Think I should join? How long would it take to get black belt

  1. Yes. you should start doing karate. It keeps you fit. It has discipline , self confidence, self control and most important self defense.

  2. And how often do you walk to the "party store"?

  3. Yea definatly join and get back into it. Thats a great idea. You might regret it if you dont especially as you liked it when you were 8 but had to give up - I had to give up dancing and have always regretted it. How cool to think you will have a goal and a focus - getting to a blackbelt. Not only will it be good for you and your self esteem and fitness it will also look fantastic on your cv - commitment, focussed, self control, discipline etc. Go for it! Good Luck!

  4. Dude youd be better off going to a gym and joining up with some dudes interested in mixed martial arts. Thats what im interested, if I were to learn a martial art though id learn Kung Fu cause that shite is tight. Seriously though MMA is atleast practical and when you get it down is much more customizable than karate.

  5. You shouldn't be asking complete strangers on advice of what you should do. You need to decide for yourself. If you really believe you want to do something, then do it. If not, then don't. The only person that knows you, is actually you.

The only physical advice I can give you is; see a professional. They can tell you if your ready for it or not. They can also tell you what you can do to prepare for it.

  6. how old are you now, sorry not relevant ,yes go for it.cant answer the black belt question, how long is a piece of string, how much time and effort are you prepared to invest in yourself.personally i never looked back from the day i started,45 years later i am still walking around, training with a grin on my face.good luck

  7. As long as it's a quality dojo and they're not selling you a load of c**p, then go for it.  If you want to, and it makes you happy, go for it.

Btw, how long have you been away?

  8. Ah i am really surprised that JP is the only UFC nut grabber to answer this so far.

I do not know where you live and I do not know what styles you have available. There are many forms of karate. My best advice to you is to go and check it out, and make sure it is not a McDojo. To find out what to look for in a good school run a search on here, as there are many questions such as this with good answers, or go to bullshido.com, and they have a very good list as well on what to look for and what to avoid.

Find a good school and have fun.

  9. most karate schools are mcdojos and too watered down from what it was supposed to be.

kung fu is more practical/lethal if you get a good teacher

cant hurt to check it out though, always good to expand your understanding of martial arts in general
