My cousin is going out for golf and is making her sister go out for golf, and my cousin (the sister) wants me to join to. I'm a 10th grader and have never played golf before, my dad plays and thinks me joining is a great idea and said he would buy me the equipment. I'm just worried that since i've never played before i won't catch on fast enough and stuck. So what do you think i should do.

  1. sure lot of fun nothing to loose lots to gain give it a shot

  2. Defiantly do it! I'm on my school's golf team and I love it. There's only 5 other girls but we have so much fun. I'm becoming a much better golfer because of all the practice. Just be ready to work very hard and willing to play in tournaments. Practice a lot and take lessons on the side too. It's a good sport you can play for all your life. You also meet some really nice girls too ; )

  3. well is up to you but golf is not easy at all trust me ive been playing for 11 years and still learning it will take a while

  4. Definetly paly.  Golf is fun.

  5. just go have fun, if ya like it cool and if not there nothing lost

  6. if you join then as you go along you will get bedder graduley

  7. I coached High School girls golf for several years. Based on my experience, I think that desire and a willingness to learn go a long way at that level. I always had freshmen on my team who had never played before. Yet, by the time they were Seniors, they were not too bad. Two of those players got college golf scholarships.

I always started my players with pitching and putting. Both shots have a similar stroke, and neither is difficult to master. Neither is done with a full swing. Once you can pitch the ball down the fairway and putt a little, you can play. Practically anyone can pitch the ball with a short iron, or punch a ball down a fairway with a half swing with a wood.

In junior varsity girls golf, a score of under 50 for nine holes is pretty respectable in the league my teams were in. Let's say you have a 450 yard hole. If you can pitch or punch 100 yards (not at all hard -- after a couple of practice sessions, you'll be able to do that), then you can get on the green in four or five. A couple of putts and you've got a double bogey (two over par). Double bogey every hole and you've shot a decent 54. You will only get better.

And I agree with your Dad. Golf is a great idea for girls. It's  sport you can play for life.  Its great for social occasions and you're setting yourself up for a future career in business, where so many deals are made on the course.

From a coach's perspective: go for it.

  8. Get yourself some clubs and practice your swing at home in the yard. Then once you get a good feel of your swing head out to the range. Here are some lessons you can try.
