Should I join the Air Force or the Army?

I'm in my first year of college right now. I'm getting my doctorate and I was thinking of joining the military to pay for college. I'm not sure which branch would be the better route to go down.

  1. AIRFORCE DUDE!!!!! SPEEEEDDD!!!!

  2. I never went to college.  I went into the Air Force to learn electronics.  They put me in their tech school for one year and then I worked on avionics (airborne doppler navigation radar, inertial navigation, radar altimeters) at bases from Maine to 'nam.  I was put into additional avionics courses at bases all along my hitch.  Did a 5 week class in Denver on an airborne laser camera and a 5 week course in a terrain avoidance radar in Misawa, Japan.   I got out with a solid 4 year electronics notch in my resume.

I saw a lot of those who go into the military to satisfy some shallow macho ego problem and then get out with enough knowledge to work at McDonald's.

  3. I am an air force brat.  My dad put 23 years in and retired.  He went to work for a company that manufactures military products and was eventually made marketing VP over 5 of their factories.

The funny part is he went in to become an MP and ended up being a Load Master.  They did a lot for him!

With things being the way they are right now be aware that you might be doing some active duty overseas..

    Best of luck!

  4. Make sure you get enough of your degree done so that you can go in as an officer. As far as which branch to go in. That depends on what you want to do.

  5. It all depends on what you want to do.  If you're majoring in Aeronautical Engineering, perhaps the Air Force would be ideal for your career.  However, if you feel like getting dirty and having blast doing it, join the Army.  All personal preference, and all still awesome to join.  If you're looking to join to aid in college tuition, check with your college's ROTC program.  Not certain, but they might be of assistance if you're wanting to pursue a career in the military.

  6. Either means you'll likely be seeing some action.

    Especially the Army.

    Are you ready for that?

  7. At this point in time, I wouldn't suggest enlisting in the armed forces unless you are 100% willing to die for your country.

And if you're not willing to get yourself blown up, find another, more intelligent way to pay for your education.

Joining the military for college money is stupid.

(this is my personal opinion, I love this country, and I enjoy living here, and I've got nothing but pure love and respect for those people that are willing to give their lives for me to continue to enjoy my freedoms)

  8. i was airforce and was turned down for active duty after failing the vision test. but i could see good enough to be a marksman for the army, so i figger army is easier to get into, and probably offers far better oppurtunity for career training that can be carried over to civilian life. i am hoping you are talking reserves, while you are still in school, not a career in the forces. unfortunately they don't pay nearly what the private sector does, but the reserves pays well for part time work, and great loans and bursaries etc.

  9. Either way is a good deed to your country! My brother is joining the air force though!

  10. The Air Force! [:

  11. i have friends in both.... of course they are biast so they say whatever branch they are in but it seems the Army freind love what they do more!

  12. Doctorate in what? The military will pay for undergraduate education, but not graduate education, unless you mean you want to be a medical doctor - that, they do pay for, but you have to give them a longer enlistment period.

Go Air Force. They have better facilities.

  13. Air Force. 100%. Go to a recruitor and get all the information, obviously. But seriously, Air Force.

  14. I've been in the Airforce for 9 1/2 years as a fighter crew chief. Its hard work but the Airforce has taken good care of me. Here are your situations.

Army - Good hardcore warrior life for the single man

Airforce- Not as hardcore (Unless you fly or are TAC-P) but great to raise a family in. Your choice

  15. We are air force. love it!!!

If you are the kind of person that is looking to get schooling out of it, and not make the military into a carreer, the air force is much more friendly then the army. we have many more jobs that will keep you in the states than the army. so you can basically live like a civillian, pay your dues to the country and not feel too much like you are in the military.

i absolutely love it. my husband absolutely loves it. we wouldnt complain.
