I have no idea what I want to do with my life. I've been floating around a community college for two years with no major in sight. My scholarship money has run out and I've started to consider going into the armed forces so that I can maybe find out a little bit more about myself and what I want from my life and also I can have my college paid for. I've always felt a calling to serve my country in the armed forces but it would absolutely kill my mom if I had to go to Iraq...It wouldn't really bother me to be deported but I don't know what to do...

  1. Whatever may become of your life, for good or bad, no one will ever be able to take away from you the personal satisfaction of serving your country. You stood for something, your country, where others found self righteous reasons to run and hide.

    Good luck,

    Tony

  2. and end up dead in some foreign country, and for no reason? Try to get married.

  3. If I were you, I'd go Active Duty. No matter what, Reserves/NG/or AD, you have about the same chance to go to iraq. That all just depends on your job.

In active duty, you have all the time (even after you get out) to use the GI Bill and it's 100% college. In the NG/Reserves, it's less than 100% and you  can only use it while you're in the service.

and don't let your mom talk you out of it if you do decide to join up. It's your life, not hers. If that was the case for me, I wouldnt be leaving for basic in two days.

  4. I know the feeling, I'm in the same boat. I'm joining the active army for three years for Military Police (31B). I haven't even told my parents yet... Ill be gone in early September. How many credit hours do you have? You might qualify for going in with lots of advanced rank. I'm going in as an E2 instead of E1 right off the bat. If you join to get direction, choose something you want to do for the rest of your life and stick with it, the army/national guard will give you complete training in whatever you want. And that training will be worth college credits also. Ill be getting like 20 credits from Basic Combat Training and AIT. If you wanna talk my Yahoo is Burntham113, Best of Luck to you!!

What you do depends on your MOS (Military Occupation Speciality) if your something like infantry, youll be kicking down doors and such. If your something like a Dental Technition, they'll just stick you in an office. Sometimes you may have to do patrols around highways and convoys, but those are considered extra duty i think, so youll get paid extra.

  5. Joining the National Guard is a ticket to Iraq, they all go at one time or another
