Should I just, drop by? (To get my foot in the door)...?

Hello, I found a job listing on an online local newspaper's web page. It's for an office position in a dentist office, where I want to work because I am in school to be a dental hygienist right now. The ad gave an email address for the applicant to send a resume to, and I am not trying to be conceited but I really do believe that my resume would be close to perfect for this job.

I sent the resume as well as a cover letter to the email address on Thursday. I have not heard back from the office since then (which I think is fine since today is only Monday). But today I looked in the same online classifieds section again, and the ad is no longer posted.

I've been thinking that maybe if I just go by there, and tell the receptionist that I don't mind waiting at all, but that I would just like to speak with the dentist (that posted the job listing) for just a second?

I want to show persistence and dedication, but I don't want this to backfire and make me seem annoying. I'm sure that as a dentist, he is probably extremely busy. What do you guys think? Thank you :)

  1. You might want to just call the office and let them know that you are following up on the resume that you submitted.

Don't insist on waiting to speak to the dentist. He has a schedule that he must stick to and you could disrupt that.

  2. I think no matter how perfect your resume is, there's about 100 other applicants with resumes just as perfect.  We're in the middle of a crisis.  A lot of people are out of work and even more are looking to jump ship for more money.  Go and show your face if you want, but don't get your hopes up.

  3. Even though you believe you're a perfect match for this position, you're not the only one that thinks this way.  It's only been two days after you've submitted an application.  My husband waited four months to get his first interview after he graduated from college.  The job listing stated that you should only e-mail your resume.  If you drop by in person, it seems like you're desperate to have this job.  If you don't get a call, it means they've hired someone else.  If you don't mind being rejected in person, you can definately show up and see what they say.

  4. You can just say you sent in your resume and wanted to check on the status.
