Question:

Should I just give up on this place?

I will try my best to not be offensive, because in the end in may just be me or nothing at all. Why does it seem like the complex, well thought out, well written poems do not get a reponse and other poems that are much lesser (you know what I mean) get 15-20 answers? I am not saying that my poems are up there with the best on Yahoo poetry but I think they are pretty decent and I can get maybe 4-5 answers and is usually from my contacts (Thank you for continued support) Without that I think I would have maybe 1 answer and sometimes I do not hear from contacts either. I try to comment even the not so good ones

I know the answer is mostly 13 year olds invade this site and wouldnt know a real poem if it hit them in the face (not all 13yr olds of course---)

It is frustrating, I really want to hear from people and it seems, well if the upper levels and everyone in between isnt commenting, well maybe I just am not that good?

Maybe my own insecurity

I just may give up for good

  1. I agree with everyone`s answers on here.

    Reasons why I don`t answer questions/post?

1)I know this might sound weird but I am particular about my percentage so if I see a better answer than mine, I just don`t answer.

2)I usually only answer questions on my network because my time is limited and I see my network`s answers first.

    3)Honestly, If I don`t understand a poem. I don`t answer because I don`t know what to say.

4)If a poem is too long and not typed double space, and with the skip a line method. I don`t read it! I hate to read long poems that are not typed neat. They give me headaches.

From your post, I assume that #3, is what going on.

Maybe your poems are too intellectual for some.......

Don`t stop posting, take the others advice. Increase your network.

  2. I can understand fully what you are saying ,my heart goes out to you! Yes lots of young replay's that do seem to get many answers and their poetry is not so good (at least to us, of course their are some that are very good)  And perception is in the eye of the beholder, as is everything else!  I also have been frustrated lately myself, not being able to be able to do something that will please a critic, sometimes I feel people achieve different levels and they become more critical of what they see!  That can be bad and good at the same time! But I caulk it up to I did ask!

As far as what you have to say as at least just wanting a comment on your writes, I would more than happy to give you my opinion, although just am in studying poetry myself, an maybe not that professional, but I do know what sounds good! ( Again in the eye of the beholder) Not everyone likes the same thing!!

You keep on trying here, there are lots of very helpful people would love for you to succeed in your passion, so don't give up just yet, and give us all a chance to comment!  My very best to you Dragon!!!   Cheers!!

  3. hmmmm i havn't been a member for to long, but i notice a trend of the lesser talented poets recieving many replies, while the deep artistic poetry is all but ignored by a few who understand it.

I reccomend you try poetry websites, there are literally hundreds online where you can share poetry with others, and not have your work fall off the page. You can put hundreds of poems up.

  4. I am sorry for not responding as I did read yours but I thought Todd gave you an excellent review and as such I just moved on.  Connect with me, and when next you post, I will respond.

  5. Not all poems get read in abundance. One needs to have contacts in an active reading, postings group, then keep posting and you will get noted, of course keep answering too.Don't give up, and we do write for ourselves, as Hydro said.

edit, Your site is private! Can't read your poems.

  6. We write not for others but for ourselves.....In the end the words are ours. In others we can see the connections that we all have.

Sometimes the smallest pieces get the biggest responses...Go figure

  7. I haven't been on but a week and I've got one contact so far, and I am glad she added me. When I look at other writers works I try to phrase my comments as an option, and I don't believe in ripping someone up because they don't meet my standards.

I've been writing poetry since 1982. I look back and laugh at my early efforts... I'm almost 60 now and I'm finally feeling good about my work.  I try to keep in mind we are all in different stages and I really want to be constructive in my comments.

Also I came here to have fun and meet people similar to me. I know you are frustrated for I too have encountered many people that I would not miss if they were gone. They are typically rude and condescending... they seem to follow each other around. and praise one another when all I can do is shake my head in disbelief at the comments they make.

I will and I hope you will too try to build up contacts with people that share the same attitude and hopefully we can be mutually supportive.

    Hugs to ya!

  8. Please don't give up.

I am far from a teen and can truthfully say I

don't think I have seen any of your writings as yet!

So come on I will be watching for you from now on, and If you like Honesty,

that is exactly what you will get from me.

In a Nice way Of course!

  9. i don't know.  write a poem about it

  10. I haven't been on long either.  I have appreciated the help and critiques as well as some really nice compliments.  I would love to see your work.  I have connected so I will be notified when you post. And I'm off to see past questions.  God, don't give up, I need all the help I can get!
