Question:

Should I just go hungry?

I finally got my appetite back at 20 weeks, well, my appetite and the appetite of a teenage boy.

It seems like no matter how much I eat, I'm always still hungry, and can't get enough food. Up until 19 weeks, I had only gained 6lbs my entire pregnancy, but from 19 weeks to 23 weeks, I gained a whopping 8lbs!!

Would it be better to eat just to take away some of the hunger pain and wait until my next meal to eat, or should I keep eating until I'm no longer hungry anymore?

  1. Well you are hungry for a reason, so you should eat.  I would avoid sweets and carbs because they do not give you the nutrients you need so you still end up hungry, also they are bad for you.  Eat high protein snacks in between meals.  Celery with peanut butter, hummus (made with chick peas, great source of protein.) Yogurt, peanuts, oatmeal, whole wheat toast with peanut butter.  As long as you are eating well, then I would not worry.  They say when you are having a boy you eat a lot more.  Sounds like in this case it is true.

  2. i am always hungry as well but if i ate just now and i am still hungry ,i go again, if i am not that hungry i wait it out or snack on fruits

  3. keep eating but eat lots of healthy food. when your hungry your baby is hungry too.

  4. No way.  I was diabetic and was trying to watch my sugar levels, to the point that I was really hungry but levels weren't low.  I ate something healthy, (usually with fibre to help make me feel full, trail mix, raw veggies/fruits, crackers etc) and thought Dr would be mad at levels.  All she said was that it was more important to not be hungry than to worry about sugar levels.

By the way, 8 lbs over 4 weeks is only two pounds per week, and that's about right.  Baby is growing and you are getting more blood volume to contend with baby.  As long as the foods are mostly healthy, your weight gain should be about that.

  5. No do not go hungry.  Your baby is growing and if you are hungry you need to eat.  Just watch what you eat.  Try eating healthy protein snacks between meals.  Don't worry about the 8lb weight gain.  I did that too!  My Dr wasn't concerned.  Don't worry your Dr will tell you if you are gaining too much weight.

  6. Make sure you're eating lots of high fiber foods (oatmeal, veggies, apples, etc.); that should help fill you up a little more without necessarily overdoing the calories.

  7. Eat small meals throughout the day to try to curb the hunger cravings.  I feel the same way here lately, I used to be ok with eating every meal like regular, not anymore.

  8. I would just eat normal meals, if I got hungry in between I'd grab something like an apple or an orange. If you indulge in eating it could cause excessive weight gain and even high blood pressure.

But don't leave yourself like starving or anything.

  9. Eat but eat well. Eat vegetables and fruit over chocolate, etc.
