Question:

Should I just quit swimming?

I've been swimming all my life. I live in Australia and have been swimming competitively since age 6. I am now 13 and will be moving to the USA in August. I am on a private swim team here, it is extremely expensive for coaching and I have a major transport problem and I've tried carpooling but none of my teammates live close to me, my parents' work is about 50min away. The swimming club is 45 min. away at a different direction. It's already July now (well, one more day) and considering that I'll be moving to USA next month anyway, my parents want me to quit (for this month). However my coach has set an extremely hard training program and we have a huge swim meet next next week which I really want to go to. Sadly my dad's leaving to go overseas again and my mom has to then manage about 3 businesses at once. So nobody is going to be able to take me to swimming. Should I just quit for this month and miss my meet? Or should I pay the fees which leaves me with the transport problem? Help!!

  1. DON'T quit. It sounds like you're really commited to the sport, and sometimes one month, just one month makes a difference, and it's going to take a lot of hard work to build up your speed again, so rather keep it balanced. As for your transport problem, are you sure you have checked with everyone? I mean EVERYONE. Meets are very important, it's like an exam, you can't miss an exam, and neither can you for a meet. If noone is capable of taking you there, try taking a bus? Or ride your bike? Rollerblade? Just think of something.

All the best! And DON'T quit, whatever you do, just don't quit, if it's something you like to do then do not quit, you will regret it.
