Question:

Should I keep mutual funds in Prudential even if losing money?

Even though the market has been dropping mostly in the past year, I just wonder if I should keep the mutual funds with Prudential. I have money in mutual funds elsewhere, also, but they did not drop like Prudential in the last 9 months. And I have twice the amount elsewhere. I am thinking of moving it over to somewhere else. All my agent said was most are dropping. Anyone else here not like Prudential the way handling their funds? Another agent there is to call me and I prob will move it.

  1. Well, do you like what Prudential has invested into?  That is what you should be looking into and not how it compares to other funds.  There are a lot of people who open Money Magazine and they pick the fund with the best 3 year performance and then become upset later on when the future does not perform like the past.

If you like what Prudential is investing in, then be excited for the drop because now you can buy more at lower prices.  If you believe that they have good holdings, then don't worry.  It will recover.  Think long term and not short term.

  2. Why don't you take a look at your fund holding and see what your fund manager is investing in? Sometimes, it is just a good manager hitting a tough time, other times, it is really a turning point for a fund. If you want, check out this web site called Fund Mojo: http://www.fundmojo.com. Input your fund symbol and see what your fund holding is, and also check out the fund history and manager information.
