Last school year my teacher let me work ahead in Math. It's been really hard but my Dad likes me doing it. I don't like it, and I'm not sure if I should keep on going. Should I keep on staying ahead in Math, and if I shouldn't, how should I talk to my Dad about it?

  1. You should just talk to your dad about it . just say you don't like doing to much math but you will do you best to pass tests and stuff .

  2. stay ahead and work hard... it will pay off for college and highschool. If your done with math in high school u can either go home early or not have to do math.

However make sure you have time to be social and play sports or something.. don't always just focus on your studies. its not healthy and is sometimes boring

  3. As long as you are understanding all the concepts and doing well it's fine to keep working ahead, with your teacher's approval (and hopefully some guidance).  If you feel like you're not fully understanding everything and would benefit more from working with others, then you might want to approach the subject with the teacher and your dad.  It sounds like your dad just wants you to do the best that you can do.  That's good!  But if it means hours of extra work and stress, it might not be worth it - especially if you're not getting the full experience of the material.

It's not necessarily a bad thing that the work is hard, as long as it's not beyond your ability.  On the other hand, there is a lot of benefit in being able to work with others at times.

It's not a straight answer, but I hope it helps.

  4. Your teacher this year might not be as helpful - it is more work for him/her.  As your skills progress, it is more and more difficult to go on your own, and the class listed on your record does not reflect your skill level, which could be detrimental when applying to college.  You want your class listings to show just how much you know.  (This is an argument which will probably interest your dad!)

If you want a harder class, see if you can take one, even if it is at a junior college or on-line high school.  You may also want to investigate a math club.

    Good luck, and happy studying!

  5. you definetly should because

    1. it will pay off later in life when you have to get a j-o-b or when you need a scholarship to a great college

    2. hard work is well hard but if the work the class is doing is too easy for you you might get lazy and it could effect your whole life

    3. your dad is just trying to think ahead for you he loves you and you need to remember thats why he wants you to work ahead in math
