I work in a large factory in the same town but so many of my coworkers are felons or one guy told me today he just got released from prison after ten years.I didn't say anything.I just wonder does it help things or make things worse? I love my brother but we are not close.I see him about once a month.I occasionally ask his opinion about something but he isn't very helpful.Like when this guy kept bothering me I wanted him to do a background check on him and all he did was say oh he just has a crush on you and that was all. So its not like people are going to see us out together.I see him at our mothers dinners that's pretty much it.So when dealing with criminals is it bad to be related to a person on the police force or is it good? Will it make them stay away from me?

  1. I would just keep it to yourself.  Let them either like you or dislike you for being you.  If someone ever comes up to you and says "what does your brother do for a living?" then answer truthfully.  Why even bring the subject up to them?  If it comes up in conversation, then so be it, but until then, there doesn't seem to be a point in telling anyone.

  2. I think I would save the information until you REALLY need to release it.

This could be a good thing, let me explain. If you don't say anything they will probably tell you more. This is good cause  when something every happens you will have so much more dirt on them for if they ever start something with you down the road.

Trust me it would be a real shocker to find out that the person you have been telling all your little dirty secrets has a brother who is police chief.

It doesn't matter if you don't talk to your brother much, it's just the physiological effect it will cause on a person.

So I wouldn't say anything until you feel threaten.
