  1. I think you'd experience much more difficulties with German, since Dutch grammar is simple.

I'm going to the post office: Ich gehe zum (zu dem) Postamt - German

Ik ga naar het postkantoor. - Dutch

You have to apply a lot of rules in German, but Dutch on the other hand is  just ''naar'' plus the right article.

  2. I would learn German because more people in the usa speak it.

  3. German because its much more useful around Europe.  Theres over 100 million speakers of German. With Dutch, its so limited in the parts of Europe you can use it.........

  4. Both are very, very similar lanauages, some can even say they are as close as to be called dialects of each other. Like in Dutch "good morning" is, "goede Morgen" and German is "guten Morgen", which is actually similar to English. They are not that close but they are very close. But trust me, neither are that close to English, even though a few words and phrases are, the language is far more complex.

I would learn German, Dutch is only spoken in the Netherlands and parts of Belgium, German is spoken is Germany, Austria, Switzerland and is known well in the Netherlands, Scandinavia, Poland, and north Italy. Also German is the "ligua franca" of eastern Europe and central/northern Europe and the language of trade considering they are the #1 exporters in the world. Also they are a language of science, math, innovation, and politics. Europe is basically led by Germans, considering they are normally elected as leaders of the European Union every time.

  5. I think you shouldn't choose a language on the basis of their difficulty.

Try to see what kind of culture and places you like most.

What do you find interesting in Germany and what in Netherlands?

Immagine you're about to have a trip...which country would you choose Germany or Holland?

Anyway I think Dutch is a little bit easier...but I'm Italian so I don't know if it's the same for english native speakers
