Question:

Should I leave New York for college? Help!?

I need to decide whether or not to leave New York for college. I was born at NYU Medical Center, and raised for the first years of my life in Battery Park City. Since then I have lived in and around the New York area and am in love with New York. But I often dream of getting out of here, of seeing the world and going to school in another American city, like Chicago, Boston, or Washington D.C. I feel as if I will be upset with myself if I don't leave and have new experiences, but I also feel like I will desperately miss this city, and won't get to experience living in it on my own.

  1. Well just for you wallets sake I say don't go to college in NYC. Remember, New York is larger then the city. I go to college in New York at SUNY Plattsburgh, which is basically just Canada is the USA. If you really want to stay in or around New York I'd say check out the SUNY system for low cost and high quality. Also check out U. Penn and U. Vermont.

  2. Get out and see the world. I was in the military for eight year. During my travels, I got to see a nice chunk of other cultures. It was a great experience.  Being there is not the same as watching it on TV.  Now that I am a civilian again, I live back where I started and have a greater appreciation for my home and a better understanding of other societies. I think leaving my hometown area made me a better rounded person. Will you miss people and places that you leave behind? sure. But you will make friends with new people and see new places you will like.

  3. Come to Chicago!

    We're nice here :)

  4. I would suggest that you do indeed go to school in another city, which will help you expand your mind.  Fortunately, you live within a relatively short drive of a great number of outstanding Universities. You may want to consider the Boston or D.C areas which are both close enough to NYC so that you could get back to the city when you started to miss it.

  5. Leave, it will open up a world of opportunities for you... If it doesn't work out return to your beloved New York :)

    Best of luck!!!!

  6. If you can afford out of state tuition, and travel expenses to go home to visit during the year then try another city.  If not, that doesn't mean you're never going to see the world.  In a few years when you're out of college you can move any place you want.  Or you can live in NY and visit any place you want. You have your entire life ahead of you.  If you don't go now it doesn't mean you'll never go.  If you can't make up your mind, maybe you need to wait another year and then transfer to an out of state school next year. If you aren't enrolled yet, it's too late to apply for an out of state school for fall semester anyway.

  7. i think you should go to college. see the world! new york will allways be there and you can always go back to new york.

  8. Go to college where ever you want. You can always move back to NY.

  9. It's always good to go out an experience new things. Especially if you think you are going to regret it later. And even if you do leave for college, you can always come back and visit.

  10. Yes, leave experience living in a new state!! It will be an adventure!! (: Best of Luck!!

  11. it is good to get some life experience outside of your home state, but also it is cheaper if you stay in-state

  12. Well, if you're asking this question, you are definitely not ready to leave NY.  You should stay in New York.  Why do I say this?  I met a New Yorker once.  I wish I never met him.  He made me dumber just by meeting him.  BTW New York is not the center of the world, but it is your center of the world.  Why leave a good thing?  Keep New Yorkers in New York. Stay in New York.

  13. well ... if you are an open minded person, it wouldnt hurt to travel

  14. yes because you will not learn alot

  15. It's important for everyone to have different experiences.  Different experiences meaning trying new things, even if it's out of our comfort zone.  Experiences define us.  Because you're going off to college, I would recommend going to one out of state, especially considering you're in your little niche in New York.  Go out there.  Be bold.  Being in a new city, a new place is very exciting and you can really grow as an individual.  I say, go for it.  What have you got to loose?!

  16. Get out. The northeast offers tons of colleges. Start there. You will still be close to home, but you will begin to see the real world.

  17. You won't know how you feel about it until you try. The world is huge and has a lot to offer. You should really see what else is out there while you are young and still have a chance!

  18. if you haven't been out of your nest you cant really extend experience life to the fullest. am a true valley girl rep cali to the fullest. i hated it when i moved to new york. i been here fora year and am starting to get it now. i think you owe it to yourself to go out and see places. it broadens your mind and network. its natural to get home sick but you can always come back thats why you call it home right.

  19. DUDE seriously you should go and see the world
