Should I leave West Virginia?

Question

I am a junior in high school. I have lived in WV all my life. If anyone has ever been here, then you know there is not a whole lot of opportunity here. I am not bragging, but people have always told me that one day, I could become the next Letterman because of my sense of humor and ability to entertain people at parties and such. I love this state. It is where my heart is, but does anyone believe that I would have better opportunity somewhere else?

Not to discourage you but, I was always told I would be a top model.. I am 5'11" and thin.  Guess what, no such luck.  You can go for the gold just make sure you have something to fall back on while your working for that gold - it doesn't happen over night even when or if it happens.  Those over night successes takes years.  Get more education and if you have your heart set on comedy, try a couple comedy clubs - Nashville (close to you) have a number where you can walk on and try out your routine.

Go for whatever you really want to do.. Sometimes your dreams take you away from the places you love. Plus, you'll never know what could have been unles you reach out for your dreams and experience life. I love WV too.. It's true there isn't much to do here, especially if you are wanting to go into the entertainment business. If you are wanting to be someone like letterman, I would tell you that you should go to school for broadcasting. It seems like you are really outgoing and would enjoy being in front of a camera. I don't know if thats something you would want to do, but it would be a good first step to getting to where you want to be.  Good luck and fun!!

Maybe you do not have to leave. If you have a personality and like living there, maybe you could pursue a career in local radio or TV. If you are good and you like what you do, other opportunities in the big city, wherever that may be, will probably open up. Good luck.
