Should I leave it?? Very simple?

Question

Yesterday morning I laid down some market ads and paper bags at the bottom of my gerbil tank.

This morning I woke up and she had chewed through both.(she didn't eat the paper, just ripped it up)

Now there is some of the glass bottom of the tank showing.

Should I leave it like that or cover it up again?

Your gerbil needs a different kind of bedding.  Wood chips and some of that cotton they make especially for them to build nests with.  Ask what kind at the petstore.

extremely normal for rodents to thred things.  they rip up twogs and paper in the wild and make their nest.  i would put bedding down and not paper.  you can buy the bedding at a pet store near your house.  she might clump up the paper and make a little bed to sleep in.  tottaly normal

It doesn't really matter because she will just keep doing it. I don't have a gerbil I have rats but they would do that all the time.

Hi,

I am a gerbil breeder, and have been for several years.  This is a very normal thing for gerbils, and no matter how many layers of newspaper you put in, they will eventually chew to the bottom.  I would NOT do the duck tape, as they will probably chew through that anyway, and its not very good for gerbils.  I would keep it as it is, and when you change the cage, just take out those ones and put new, unshredded ones in.  This is actually good for your gerbils, and it gives them something to do when you aren't playing with them.  The glass bottom won't hurt them, mine actually like it,and they will sleep on it in the winter because it keeps their body heat better.  Hope this helps :-)

if your gerbil's digging at it then yes if it doesn't effect him no if you do use duct tap and duct tape the bottom of the tank

duck tape wont make anything better you should put more newspaper down and get litter (i use kaytee pine bedding and litter) it will make your hamster MUCH happier to have bedding than cold hard ground trust me!
