Should I leave off prior employment if...?

I am trying to get a new resume put together. I've been in the workforce for many years but I know that things change constantly so I'm trying to get new resume writing help.

If I am applying for a position where a past job has no relevance, should I include it anyway?

Also, what should I do about the gaps in my employment where I stayed at home to have children? Should I indicate that on my resume or wait until I receive a call?

  1. Put in every job. Its easier than explaining non working periods. Also shows an array of experience.

Women have kids all the time. Its very common so dont worry about that though you may have to explain the gaps in employment.

  2. You should include past positions regardless if they apply to the position you are currently interested in.  Employers might see something in your past jobs that they think would be an asset to perhaps another position they have within their company besides the one that you are applying for.   It is good to show when you were at home so that there are no questions when your resume is being reviewed, they might assume that you were unemployed and just didn't work during that time.  Employers are reviewing tons of resumes and might not find the time to call with questions so it is good to fill in all the blanks for them.   Good luck!

  3. List your jobs

Tell what your position was and why you liked working there.

Yes I know you left the jobs but you want to show positiveness

Leave the blanks, if they ask you can explain  it during the interview
