Should I legally change my name?

My name is long and is hard to pronounce, and I would rather have a more caucasian name, so should I legally change my name from "alykhan" to "alyx" (alex) - I am basically adding an "x" to my nickname aly. Is this a good idea? Or should I just go with "Alex" how it is normally spelled? I think it sounds more caucasian and easier. The only problem is that it will cost a bundle but Im willing to pay.

  1. Alex is a nickname for Alexander.  Alyx would be more inline with your current name, but the "y" makes it look more feminine.  It's up to you which you want, but a legal  name change shouldn't really cost that much.

  2. I would keep your name, it's unique.

  3. If you believe it will help you, by making your life more convenient, then go for it. Alex seems better than alyx but that is just my opinion.

  4. It should not "cost a bundle".  In Texas, for instance, the filing fee is less than $300.

Whether or not you SHOULD change your name is a bigger question.  Have you spoken with a therapist about this?
