Question:

Should I legally change my name to make it sound more caucasian?

Right now my name is Alykhan, however I never use that name, I use a short form "Aly". Even after everyone calls me "Aly", I still feel that "Aly" is a muslim name, and I feel almost labeled by the name into that certain group. The name gives away my religion, and could potentially s***w me over in the long run as alot of people would prefer non-muslims. I would rather be regarded as a more caucasian name, like "Alyx" (sounded Alex) because Alex is more white, just like me, born in Canada, only knowing english, and hardly practicing my religion of Islam. I dont think I should be labeled by my name, as a name is a first sentance you tell someone, and using a pen name or alias name just makes me look like an idiot when they find out my real "muslim" name... what do you guys think...? ps. ALYX instead of ALEX is bcuz alot of my certificates say ALY on it so I can use them and always say the certificate is a short form for my name ALYX.

give me your thoughts please..

  1. Alex is a boring name. Why would you even want to sound more "Caucasian"?

You sound very insecure but you probably got a reason. s***w all the people who judge you because you have a different name. I wish my name was a little different. My name is Anna (it sounds English) and someone has told me that that's an "odd name." To her dismay, I told her that I didnt care what she thought.

I suggest you to keep your current name. Heck you see alot of celebrities name their children unconventional names like Sunday, Honor, Violet. They dont want common boring names. s***w the conventional names like Jennifer, Michael, Jessica.

Love your name and love yourself.

  2. I think you should adapt a pen name. Here are some reasons...

    1. Popular authors generally have very simple names (Stephen King, Anne Rice, Mitch Albom, etc.)

    2. People will generally pick up a book by a name that is simple, and familiar to other popular names among their genre.

    3. It's fun coming up with a penname! Some people with completely plain names adapt pennames for the fun of getting to be creative.

  3. what ever, take a cool name like Jack Blade or Johny Blaze, George Washington. When I lived abroad i sometimes went by the name Li Mu Bai, from a movie but I found out was also a historical poet. Be William Shakespear

  4. How about using your middle name?

  5. i think you should be happy with your real name...who cares what people might think or say...if they judge you based on that then f**k em!!

  6. wow... i think you should be happy and proud of your ethnicity. people who judge you because of your name or race are probably not worth getting to know. however, if you feel your name doesn't fit who you are, change it.
