Should i let my puppy sleep on my bed, I hate locking him up in his crate at night, although i don't mind during the day. He sleeps right beside me om the couch during the day?

What are the up-sides to letting him sleep in my bed?

What are the downsides?

Does your dog sleep with you?

Thanks

  1. Both of my dogs sleep on my bed, and there are no problems.

  2. Some people will tell you it's not a problem, and some people will tell you never to let the dog on the furniture. Those that are against it say dogs can become a bit egotistical if they are allowed on the furniture and try to claim dominance, if you maintain your dominance, allowing them on the furniture isn't a problem. I let my pups sleep on the bed with me, but they also understand that it is MY bed and they are guests there.

  3. Up side- He might feel more safe with you

Downside- Pack leader never lets lower ranking members sleep that close to them. This can cause dominance issues.

  4. basically all of my dogs sleep with me at one point even if i dont want them to! :D!

but its ok to let your dog sleep with you then you can cuddle with your puppy

but one very big down side is if your dog sheds alot then prepare to be eating dog hair in your sleep

i know cause my pug sheds like CRAZY! but she still sleeps on my bed so if you do let your dog sleep with you just change your sheets at least once a week

    hope this helps! :D!

  5. well some downsides-

sometimes puppies will get up and go potty.

Mine does it everytime I let him, and he does the same thing over and over and it drives me nuts!

  6. You're not going to like this...

Allowing your dog to sleep on your bed is a very clear sign,in canine terms, that he is the boss.

To allow your dog to sleep on your bed will cause all kinds of "doninance" issues...Please don't put him through that stress, o.k. ?

  7. What kind of dog?  I ask because of adult size.  Once you start letting him sleep on the bed, be prepared to continue, so make sure you have the room.

Dominance is not an issue as long as you are the "pack leader" and he knows it.  Dogs sleep together in the wild and they know who the "boss" is.

    Upsides:  Bonding, trust, etc.

Downsides:  You have to keep them clean and flea free.  Make sure you have room.  Once you start, it is harder to stop - you will be sending him mixed messages.

  8. My puppy does both. He gets febrile seizures so he knows when he is over heating. As those points, he jumps off the bed and just sleeps in his crate. He loves to take naps with me but has no problems with his crate. He loves it and sees it as his safe zone. I put in a nice, comfortable bed, lots of small blankets, and he just climbs right it. So people don't like their dogs sleeping in the bed. I would just put down another bed and let him know that its his. Who knows, he might end up like my dog and do both.

  9. My adult dog sleeps with me.  The biggest downside to having a small puppy sleep with you is that you could possibly roll onto him while you're asleep and kill him.  Another downside is that he might jump off or on  the bed and hurt himself.  Being loose in your bedroom, he might pee or poo anywhere, maybe even on your bed or pillow.  If he can't get back up on the bed after he jumps off, he's going to wake you  up every time he wants to get back up there.  Also, he may chew on and destroy something while you sleep.  If he chews an electric wire, he could die.  The up side to letting him sleep with you is that you'll both like it.

  10. When my dog was a puppy, I gave to her, her own little bed and didn't allow her to sleep on mine.  Now that she's bigger, she'll sometimes sneak in to sleep on my bed if I forget to shut my door.

Personally, I don't care to have her sleep in or on my bed.  She has a nice bed and a lot of toys to keep her occupied during the day and I also pet and play with her a lot.

Some people seem to enjoy cuddling their pet. *shrugs*

    - Pepper.

  11. My dog who's 3 nearly turning 4 sleeps with me at night.

She takes up most of my room and kicks me.

ha-ha but maybe try with your dog.

you also get alot of fur on your bed unless your dog is furless
