Question:

Should I let one of the guys carry my briefcase?

When we are out on business and I am using my crutches, I carry my briefcase by means of a shoulder strap and it is not a problem. My male associates always offer to carry it for me. I feel as though I am hurting their feelings when I refuse. I work with a great group of people who are very generous with their assistance and I feel as though I am hurting the person who offers and I refuse.

  1. It depends on the situation, but generally speaking, you have made the right choice.

I can't tell from your post if you are permanently disabled or not.  Either way, though, it's important to keep a strong image in the business world.  Even among a group of understanding co-workers, a situation can turn around and bite you in the kiester with amazing speed.

  2. I have been on crutches for a while and I understand how you feel.  Part of it is that you don't want to let your situation get the best of you, since you can easily carry your case while your hands are occupied with your crutches.  And part of you wants  to comply  with the courtesy offered you.  It sounds like you have a very good working relationship with these guys, so why not let them help you out, and when you wear your pros, there is  no real need except that they offer out of courtesy.

  3. Why not?  They obviously want to be helpful to you.  So let them.

  4. Why not? Why do you refuse in the first place? Appreciate the gentlemen around you. =)

  5. if they are offering, you should let them.  People are naturally helpful, and there's no reason not to let them.  Reverse the roles...imagine you were healthy and not on crutches, and saw a co-worker - male or female - who was on crutches and carrying a briefcase, or parcel of any kind.  You would want to help them, and if they said "no, I can do it myself" you might be a little put-off.

  6. no you should not as you would let the man be embarrased being seen in public carrying a woman's handbag
