I am SO angry! In 2001, I had a stomach ache and saw my MD who said I just had the flu, well two weeks later it was worse and I had to have my appendix out. It was gangrene. So, I was misdaignosed by my MD. I was 21 at the time

Because it was so upsetting I couldn't eat much and I went down from 150 to 135lb. My mother took me to a psychiatrist because of the trama I went through being misdiagnosed by my MD. The psychiatrist (who I haven't seen since 2001) told my mother and me if he diganosed me with Aneroxia, that it would be covered and my deducatable would be waived. The lowest I got was 135 and I WAS eating.

Fastfoward to now, I am 165pounds and I just turned 30 and my insurance went up because of my age. When I requested to change to a new policy I was denied any coverage because my 'past' issue with Anorexia. I am SO mad!!

Since I haven't seen that doc since 2001, should I try and switch to a different company and not disclose that I even saw that doctor???

  1. You (or your mother), went along with the doctors fraudulent representation that you were anorexic.  Why?  So that your health insurance would pay the bills.  Guess what?  It's insurance fraud on both your parts.  Now, you will deal with that diagnosis for a long time to come.  Sorry sweetie - this is the price you pay - unless of course you get caught for the insurance fraud - in which case, you'll probably go to jail.  Good Luck!!

Oh, and no use lying.  There is something call the Medical Information Bureau that has all that information.  Any company that you apply with will see that and then they will see that you were denied life insurance from another company also.  You are stuck - there probably isn't anything you can do about it.

  2. I don't think its going to do you any good to lie - the insurance providers will be able to see that you were denied coverage with another company for a past medical issue.

Unfortunately, you're stuck between a rock and a hard place.  If you try to go back now and explain the situation...that you didn't really have anorexia, but conspired with your physician to commit insurance fraud...you'll get in trouble for that.

The best option I can suggest to you is to get yourself on a group policy through an employer.  Group insurance policies have different requirements, and they'd have to accept you via the employer's coverage.

  3. It sounds like the doctor purposely misdiagnosed you for his own profit.  I can't blame you and your mother for going along at a time like that.

Write a letter explaining what happened and ask the insurance company to change their decision or apply to another company using the letter.  If I were your agent, I would fight for you but I am only in Florida.
