Question:

Should I live in Jack London Square and commute to Sunnyvale?

My dilemma is if I should move to Jack London square and live with 2 friends (1.5 hour commute each way). The other option is staying at home with my family (I am 22) in Cupertino for very little money (20 minute commute each way). I work in Sunnyvale. Financially, the best option is to stay at home. But, since I am young, I want to have as many new and fun experiences as I can have, and living with friends in a new city would be perfect for that. Should I follow my financial or social conscience? Please lend your advice :)

  1. Take the Social dude, if your parents are not the type that don't want you to go away ;)

  2. Great question and really hard to answer.  Do you really like to drive, or at least be in your car stuck in the worst Bay Area traffic on 880 for 1.5 hours each way?  Can you take a train or bus?  Sunnyvale is tough, no BART there.  But they do have Caltrain.  If it were me, I'd live at home for another year or so, then hopefully ask the Sunnyvale company if I could telecommute from home and not have to deal with the commute.
