Question:

Should I look into Anthropolgy?

Junior in HS, considering what path I'm interested in taking (I know, I'll change my mind 182 times).

I'm interested in studying linguistics, Romance languages, and perhaps sociology, and traveling to Europe.

I've been doing some research and I've discovered that anthropology may perhaps fit all of these desires. The thing is, I don't know too too much about it, and I think I may be sometimes confusing it with an archaeologist.

I read on Princeton Review, I believe, that besides the aforementioned areas, Bio is generally required. How integral is that to the job? I'd prefer the more linguistical/social/cultural route. And it also said that they have PhDs... again, how common is that? I don't know if I want to spend so much time in school... I want to go out and do something I'm passionate about. Maybe I'd be interested if I had some more info.

I'm also nervous about not finding a good-paying job. What career paths are there for me?

  1. Anthropolgy sounds interesting yes you should into anthropolgy

  2. Try volunteering for a University-level Anthropology project near your home, this summer, and that experience will answer most of your questions!

  3. idk. ur question is too long and a pain in the *** to answer. but one thing i just wanna say is that archeaology IS a branch of anthropology.

  4. In the UK archaeology is not a branch of archaeology as it is in the US, which may be important to bear in mind if you are planning on studying in Europe.

Anthopology is very diverse subject and is on the first level divided between Social/Cultural anthropology and Biological anthropology.  Linguistic anthropology is a branch of social/cultural anthropology.  I'm sure that weherever you studied you might have to do both biological and social anthropology, but could specialise in linguistics after your initial foundation.

If you are really interested I'd advise reading Joy Hendry's Introduction to Social Anthropology (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Introduction-Soc... its a relatively easy read and shoudl get your enthusiasm going if you are indeed interested
