I have a 1995 Ford Taurus. I just recently bought it used 2 weeks ago . It has had 1 previous owner. First off, I love this car : ac is as cold as a freezer, it drives like a race car, and I feel very comfortable in it! the thing is...once it starts it keeps going. that's not the bad news, the bad news is it starts basically whenever it feels like it! It can go for like 10 mins then it needs time to ''rest''. I have called around and we believe it is either the ignition or the starter. Another problem it has is it leaks oil. And smoke comes from the exaust primarily because of the oil. If you can please give me an estimate of how much this would cost to fix, and tell me if you would fix it or sell and buy a new one. Thanks.

  1. I had a '94 that required a new transmission because of a major design error.

It also had a bad head gasket (3.8l) which was a problem so bad that Ford had an extended warranty on it, which I missed by a month.

I would be careful putting money into that thing.

  2. sell and buy a new car.

  3. If you like the car get it fixed, doesn't sound like major problems to me, if it's leaking oil like you say and not burning it the oil could just be leaking down on the hot exhaust pipe causing it to smoke, probably just needs new valve cover gaskets which is cheap and your car quitting on you could be as the mechanic says in the ignition, sounds like a part is getting hot and quitting until it cools down like the ignition module.

  4. Definitley sell it because the engine has problems.
