Question:

Should I make this fantasy football TRADE 6 player deal?

Ok so I am in this league where QB's are worth a lot more than running backs. For example just from last season Jon Kitna has almost twice as many points as Ryan Grant.

I have been offered the following trade:

I would receive: Jason Campbell, Ryan Grant, and Jacksonville's defense.

I would trade away: Jon Kitna, Edgerrin James, and Carolina's defense.

We start 2 QB's and I currently have Carson Palmer and Marc Bulger. Kitna is on my bench, but I would like to have another option in case Bulger struggles. How good will Bulger play this season?

I look at it this way: Ryan Grant for Edgerrin James. Obviously he took Grant ahead of me taking James, but how will Grant play without Brett Favre in Green Bay. Defenses can now stack the box.

All thoughts/input greatly appreciated. 11+ points for the most descriptive answer.

  1. Yes, I would take this. Don't look at Kitna's stats from last year as a true indication of this year. Martz isn't there any more and they will at least try to run the ball sometimes. Further, Kitna is your 3rd option. Campbell and Kitna are essentially equivalent - while Campbell is in another new system, Washington has added some weapons. If you look at ESPN ratings, Campbell is actually one spot ahead of Kitna in their view.  In fact, all the players you're getting are rated higher than what you're giving up.

  2. I would take that trade in a heartbeat!

  3. I would take it

    1) Kitna for Campbell

Campbell has much more upside because he is young and with his injury last year he never got a chance to shine at the end of the season after he was starting to show consistent signs of greatness... Kitna on the other hand will pass a lot more; however, he has been around a long time and proved to me last year that he is better in the backup role. He had a plethora of receivers and still struggled with a below average QB rating. I think it will be more of the same for Kitna even though he is an easier division than WAS because he still doesn't have a running game like the Redskins do to open up the pass for him and his talented receivers. Campbell has potential, and that is exactly what you should be looking for on your fantasy bench. He will be a good asset in case Bulger or Carson gets hurt. Bulger will play great if he plays because has consistently for the past few years and still has talented recievers and an even better running game in Stephen Jackson, it just depends on if he can stay healthy unlike last season.

    2) Edge for Grant

I believe this is a much a bettr trade for you for a lot of the same reasons I gave for the last part of the trade. Ryan Grant does not have as much talent as Edge does, but he is younger, works harder, and he has a much better team around him. He showed how good he could really be last year while James struggled on a team that did not play up to their standards. Grant is on his way up in his career while James has already peaked and is on his way down. You do make a good point that they will stack the box, but I believe Rodgers will take advantage of that early and then Grant will will get his yards and scores when the defense has to back off. Grant wil also have a lot of recieving yards and TD's  if defenses decide to stack the box anyway because he showed he can be a threat in the passing game last year. Also, James isnt in  a much better position with his QB. Lienart still hasnt proven himself and Warner is getting older every year and defenses will stack the box on ARI, and their line will not be able to handle it as well as GB's. Even when Lienart does proove himself, they wil become a pass-oriented offense anyway with the receivers they have and the line they don't have. James will not get the chances Grant will get before or after the defenses back off.Grant is no fluke and you should like this offer.

    3) Jac DST for Car DST

I don't think you can predict at this point in the year who will get the better trade at this position. You have to believe that the Jags have a better defense, but they will also be playing more talented offenses in the AFC, such as the Colts twice. However, defenses usually don't do as well or as bad as they are expected to do before the season or even before each game for that matter. You have to decide on which defense you want to start week by week. THese defenses are very close and you are already getting the better part of the deal with the last two players.

Its a must that you agree on this trade

Great Luck.. I like your team... it looks very talented and could be great if your QB's play up to their potential

  4. Make the trade. You're already set at QB and you'd be getting a solid third in Campbell. But you'd be hugely upgrading at RB. Aaron Rodgers is a lot better than he gets credit for - I think he's going to surprise a lot of people. He's going to punish defenses when they put eight men in the box and allow Grant the opportunity to succeed.

  5. I would take it. My reasoning behind is as follows....

Kitna is on a better offensive team butt how much will they pass now with Martz gone. Campbell has an amzing amount of talent around him and it has been said that they will cut him loose to a certain extent for their offense. Campbell has just as much if not more talent than Kitna as individual players.

Ryan Grant is a better RB that James is now. James lost his stuff after he left Indy for Arizona. Grant yes has virtually a rookie QB at the helm now but Rodgers has shown that he can indeed be the man in GB now. He has shown it on the field and off the field. Grant may have bad games the first 2 weeks but then people will start to realize that Rodgers is indeed a good QB. Green Bay is still a better team anyway.

Both defenses have potential to be the best in the NFL. But when it comes down to it, Jacksonville made arguably one of the GREATEST if not the best offseason move in NFL history signing defensive coordinator Greg Williams. Greg Williams is the best defensive coordinator since Buddy Ryan. They have speed strength and all their players have an extremeamount of football knowledge. I have them as the best defense in the NFL this year and I even have the Jags winning it all this year (even though I am a Titans fan).

As for Marc Bulger, I am extremly high on him this year. last year he had a decimated O-Line and with that he was injuried. Marc bulger when healthy is a top 5 QB not just in fantasy but in the NFL. He has amazing talent around him and if Pace can stay healthy along with everyone else on the line, Marc Bulger is pure GOLD! And with a reciever like Holt how can you go wrong?

In conclusion I say Campbell beats Kitna, Grant beats James, and Jacksonville DESTROYS Carolina.

  6. First, here are some rankings from footballguys.com in standard format.  PPR may make some difference, but it sounds like QB performance is heavily weighted.

The rankings are positional, not overall.

    QB

    Kitna - #19

    Campbell - #20

    RB

    Grant - #12

    James - #16

    DEF

    Jax - #4

    Carolina - #21

So, on paper you appear to have the upper-hand in the deal.

As you know, I hate preseason trades.

    1) Campbell has a new head coach in Zorn.

    2) Arizona may or may not go with Leinart, so Edge could be decent or in further decline.

    3) Aaron Rodgers will dent Grant's production, at least initially.

    4) Kitna has an easier divisional schedule, but loses Mike Martz.

In all, the upgrade in defense is tasty, and I'm high on Campbell.

The deal favors you, so weigh the risks and rewards and decide.  This is big deal.

  7. make the trade u will be getting 2 really good players and giving up on 2 just almost average players make the trade it is definitly worth having 3 very good qbs like u have no w in palmer and bulger cause down the line u can always trade on for like 2 really good players

  8. I would do it - you seem to be getting back way more than you are losing especially seeing as how you probably won't be starting kitna anyway and he is the only real asset you are giving up.

  9. I would take it.

Jason Campbell is going to be learning a new offense, so there may be a learning curve, but it's a transition to a west coast offense similar to the one run by the Seahawks. There is definitely an upside there.

The Ryan Grant/Edgerrin James trade is at worst, equal, as defenses may now stack the box against a Favre-less Packers, but Edge is running with a line that has yet to prove anything, and will be 30 by the time play starts. Arizona is a primarily pass-oriented offense as well, and will be for at least a few more years.

Jacksonville's defense has always been solid, and is a great turnover-forcing group. However, they do play in the AFC South, against the d**n Colts. But, they are definitely on the rise in the NFL and are the only team I see usurping the Colts of that AFC South title anytime soon.

    SO, I think you should.

    But, it's your call :D
