Ok, it's a 14 team keeper league. Each season you are allowed to save 3 players from last season. So the first pick in the first round is actually the 43rd player selected.

I finished 3rd last year and I'm in good shape this year. I have Joseph Addai and Adrian Peterson as 2 of my keepers. Late last season I worked a deal to get Calvin Johnson. I think that he is going to break out an be a beast for years to come. He really reminds me a lot of Sterling Sharpe. So I traded Larry Fitzgerald to get him for the sole purpose of saving him.

Then the other day, a guy in my league offered me Braylon Edwards for Calvin Johnson straight up. I know that Braylon was a beast last year. On paper it seems like a no brainer. But I think the Browns are going to struggle offensively this year. And I hate the Browns. Big Steelers fan. I don't know if I can bring myself to root for a Brown every week. Even one as productive as Edwards.

I also have Wes Welker and Santonio Holmes. I'd like to keep one of them and then hope Johnson slips to me in the draft. But I pick at #12 and I'm pretty positive he won't last that long.

What do I do? Remember, this is a keeper league I've been in for 9 seasons now. You can literally keep a guy their whole career.

Calvin Johnson (short term/long term) vs. Braylon Edwards (short term/long term)

  1. I'd go with the trade.  If Braylon puts up the numbers he did last year, and I think he will for many years to come, then it's a no-brainer.

  2. CALVIN JOHNSON. DONT EVEN THINK TWICE ABOUT IT!! Especially since your in a keepers league. Calvin is going to break out this year and be an established WR in the NFL for years to come!

  3. I would take Braylon Edwards and keep him.....He is almost as young as Johnson and is already established at a great WR...Edwards in my opinion is a top 5 WR.  I would do it in a second Browns offense will be fine it the defense that will suck and with them being behind alot means alot more passing, and not the Derek Anderson is the best QB but do you really want a WR with Jon Kitna throwing to him??

  4. Calvin deff has the potential to be great, but Braylon already has proved himself, plus hes not exactly an old guy either(only like his 4th season i think). Also Kitna has kinda leveled off in his career while D. Anderson is still on the rise. So i'm gonna say do it!

  5. I had Braylon last year and he was great for me.  Got him with a mid-round pick.

Having said that, I don't like him for this year.  I think he'll be good but not great.  I actually like Calvin Johnson more.  For this year and the years to come.  I think teams will key in on Edwards.  I also think the QB situation in Cleveland won't be as good as last year.  Anderson might struggle more which means Edwards could too.

I'm a Lions fan.  I know, it's sad.  And all this talk about Martz leaving and how much that'll hurt their passing game, I think it's b.s.  Kitna won't throw 60 times a game any more.  They will run more.  But that will actually help the passing game.  Martz used to have those 5 WR sets and he loved throwing the ball to guys like Furrey and McDonald.  This new offense is more conventional but that means more sets with Johnson and Roy Williams in there.  Also when they run better, that'll set up the play action.  I think both those guys will tear it up this year.  Johnson, because of his talent, they'll take shots deep to him.  You have to.  And Roy, in a contract year, he'll have a great year too.

Chances are the team won't re-sign Roy after this year.  They're going to build around Calvin.  So for years to come, he could be your Randy Moss.
