Question:

Should I mind my own business or tell the police??

In the town where I live there are many rural roads, but one Boulevard is quite busy as it is the only road into town without going around the whole lake. There is a very nice park on that street. However, last weekend and this weekend (just about an hour ago), I saw three boys, under the age of 8, riding scooters on the narrow shoulder of this boulevard, across from the park (with helmets on thank goodness) - all alone with no parent or adult in sight! They were not on their way to the park, it was obvious.

Sharing this boulevard are many cars, speeding teens, and many motorcyclists.

Should I inform the police of this situation? I don't want to be a busy-body but I am concerned for their safety. Part of me says to mind my own business but another part of me is being eaten away at the thought of them getting run over.

PS I am a mom of an 11 yr. old daughter, and I would never allow my child to be at the park alone, let alone play on that busy street!!

Any thoughts?? Thanks everyone.

  1. That's crazy! Run over, OR kidnapped... or worse... Don't mind your own business, or you'll feel guilty as heck, if something does happen. Their parents may be stupid and irresponsible, but thank goodness you're not!!

  2. Make the call.  Better safe than sorry.  you can do it anomalously if you feel that you do not want everyone to know it came from you.

  3. Call the PD!

  4. I agree with the old days, where it takes a village to raise a child. When I was a kid my neighbors, and even strangers would scold me when I was up to no good lol.You don't want to be a busy-body, but you would never forgive yourself if something happened to one of them. The parents may not have known what their children were doing.

  5. you have all right to be concerned about this situation. i would call the cops and tell them that they need to go home. I mean, what would happen to you if one of them did get run over and you didn't do anything about it when you seen them. Call the cops!

  6. Maybe see if you can figure out who those children are and inform their parents. Or, put in a suggestion for a wide sidewalk for children and people riding bicycles. :) good luck

  7. well, if you mind your own business, they might get hurt.

if you tell the police, they might not get hurt but the kids might not like you for telling on them.

i think you should tell the police , just ask him not to mention your name or where you live.
