Some background on us: My husband and I are looking to re-locate from New Brunswick, Canada in a few years. We are currently 23 & 25 years old. He works as a Home Theatre & Satellite Installer. I am in school working towards my diploma Early Childhood Education, and then plan to get my Education degree at university. I would like to someday open and run my own daycare facility.

We are somewhat leaning towards Canada and Australia, because of the free medicare system, however the unlimited amounts of entertainment ideas in Orlando FL, is a huge positive for us.

We are aware that home prices are somewhat cheap in Orlando, however it is hard/impossible to get home owners insurance. Also, know that home prices in Vancouver are very very high.

We don't know much about Australia.

We would like to pay about $150,000-$200,000 CAD for a home. We are not sure what income amounts we could expect living in any of these places doing our current/expected future jobs.

We would like some information from people living in these areas, or who have lived in these areas. Maybe some pros and cons of living in each of those places as well.

Thank you all in advance for all your information and help :)

  1. You should move to Texas. We always need good teachers.

  2. Australia.

  3. Considering that Florida just got buried by a tropical storm means that you might want to avoid that area.  Also, the business environment in Florida is lacking other than tourism.  I would think Alaska would fall into the same area with business.

For that, I would offer up Australia as the answer.

  4. Austrailia. They are rich in resources and jobs. Not many natural disasters happen there.

  5. You should move to Alaska for a few good reasons.

1-   Alaska is the free est state in the free est country in the world.

2-   It is extremely vast and we don't even have a million people living here.

3-   Great opportunities for good paying jobs in mining / oil. and not just dirty nasty jobs, but high paying desk jobs. the mining industry is SOOOO vast, you can get a job doing almost anything. ( at the local mine the lowest paying job is $80,000 a year, and that 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off. )

3.5-  Alaska is swimming in resources, Its actually quite amazing.  O, and you'll get used to the bears / deer walking threw your yard.(unless you live in anchorage) In fact just a few hours ago there was a black bear and its cub in my thrash... gotta love it.

4- O yea, and every dependent earns money on OUR resources. (aka PFD)

Id say the best way to describe Alaska is HUGE, free, and very fresh.

    Its great.

PS, you DO NOT WANT free health care, seriously. Its like communist care.....

  6. Australia, it has plenty of employment, cheap housing, plus great land. I mean you can get acerage half an hour out of the city. Look at either Brisbane or Melbourne, great places to live.

  7. That sort of money will only be a small downpayment on a below average home in Australia.
